An Interview with Matt
What do you do at Liberty?
As little possible. Daily operations, helping sell product.
Where is home now? Where are you from originally?
Came from my Mom and Dad. Born in Harrisburg, spent a good deal of teenage life in Lebanon area, after marriage back in Harrisburg for a little while. Lived all around Harrisburg area. I live in Pine Grove, PA right now.
What is your background? Work? Education?
Management entire life. Started out at 17 as Night Manager in a Grocery Store. Independently owned stores. After 12 years in grocery business I worked for Harrisburg Dairies. Started as Salesman and worked about 1.5 years on the truck. Took over General Manager position. Then, 2 months later became COO of the Operations there and ran it for 32 years. And then VP of Operations at Sunnylane Foods in Lebanon until Covid came. Then, interviewed at this fabulous facility.
When you're not working how do you like to spend your time?
Sleeping. Farming. I love animals. One of my favorite parts of the farming is animals. We raise steers and cow calfs, sheep, a couple horses, pigs occasionally, chickens. I love to mow grass. I love having my grandchildren around and visiting with them. I love projects. Anything to keep my mind busy.
What is your favorite meal you've shared as a team?
Steaks on the grill with sweet potatoes and corn on the cob. Fridays are the special meal day.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
I would probably go to Ireland. I have ancestries that are Irish. I would like to go back to the old countries and see the folklore. I do love traveling around the US too.
If you could have any super power, what would it be?
Ability to keep everyone happy. The whole world to be happy. I love happiness.
What lessons have you learned while working at Liberty?
To be patient. Cause I was always a person that wanted it done yesterday. So it pushed things along really hard. I found out here you can’t operate like that, you have to be patient and wait. You can still wait but you have to wait for it to develop.
